"We found it ... it's Lego," Mr. Bell recalled the officer saying, as the police promptly uncuffed him. Some guy in Toronto bought himself a LEGO gun and assembled it at the office.
A coworker saw the gun and called the cops. The response was quick and efficient.
"With calls like this you have to be safe, not sorry," said Const. Tony Vella, a Toronto police spokesman. "Until we know it's not a gun, we have to take it seriously."THIS IS CANADA. Nobody even considered for a moment that this guy might have a conceal carry permit, because nobody does (practically nobody).
Mr. Bell says he holds no grudges against the police, considering how real the toy gun looks.
"If there was someone in here with a gun I'd expect nothing less," he said. "However, it wasn't like I was walking around downtown with it. I didn't actually do anything with it."
Mr. Bell was released and faces no charges.
Just that presence of a gun puts the fear of God in citizens because we don't know what it is.
All we know about guns is that guns are "dangerous" and kill people. The only time we hear about guns is at times when illegal guns kill people, and we forget to see the difference.
Some would say that citizens are armed and subjects are disarmed. I tend to agree with that point of view. I guess I'm a law-abiding subject of Canada.
What if other employees had been armed? One of them could have unholstered his piece, gone to the cubicle and asked Mr.Bell what the hell he was doing, playing with his gun. Instantly, that coworker would have put back his own gun, seeing that it's just a toy.
After all, real guns are NOT toys. They're tools. The SWAT team use these tools appropriately. They had guns and nobody got killed.
Let's ponder that for a second...
